We will be reading four Core Novels over the course of the year in eighth grade. Every student will be given a book to use in class, but it is sometimes helpful to have his/her own copy to take notes and mark up the text. A list of the Core Novels used in eighth grade is listed below.
As part of the eighth-grade curriculum, independent reading will be incorporated into the reading grade. Just as athletes need practice to improve and sharpen their skills, readers also need practice to become better, stronger readers. The benefits from reading at home extend into all curricular areas and prepare students for high school, college, and career. Because of this, I urge students to choose books that are of high interest, yet challenge them to continue to grow.
