Summer Band/After School Rehearsal Supplies: Tennis Shoes, Shorts, hat, Sunscreen and water jug
August - October - Learn and master music for halftime show and music for the stands.
Learn and Master marching techniques and apply to drill design in our halftime production.
November - December - Learn and master holiday music selections to be performed at winter concert.
Introduce and begin working on regional band music.
January - March - Continue regional band music.
Introduce, learn and master concert music for UIL Concert Sightreading Contest
Learn and master sight reading techniques.
April - May - Introduce new music for possible 2019 show productions and begin working on Fine Arts Festival
productions.
Grading policy
Participation and Performances
Rehearsals: All justifiable attendance conflicts can be made up through alternative practice times worked out with band directors. Students can come to the band room before or after school on their own time and work on missed rehearsals. Already scheduled times for the entire band does not count for made up work. Justifiable attendance conflicts include other school related activities or family emergencies. Grades in marching season are primarily effort based. Thus effort can only be shown through good attendance. After school rehearsals are mandatory. A grade reduction of 2 points will be given for missed practice without note/email from parent prior to absence. Missed rehearsals should be made up within a week of absent date to avoid grade reduction.
Performances/Contests: Unexcused absence from performance with prior notice is a 5 point deduction from grade. Unexcused absence from performance without notice is a 10 point deduction from grade.
Daily participation in class is vital for our program development - 2 points is taken off for non participation. This can be made up with a before or after school rehearsal with section leader or a director.
The Holiday Concert and Fine Arts Festival are semester finals - absence without notice from parent is 20 points off grade.
