If you are writing a:

·      Fictional story: it must be at least 2 full pages typed and it must be an original piece (not one based on another story, not a piece you have already written); a title must be provided

·      Sequel: it must be at least 2 full pages typed and you must provide a short summary of the previous story; a title must be provided

·      Prequel:  it must be at least 2 full pages typed and you must provide a short summary of the original story; a title must be provided

·      Any short poem (Haiku, Cinquain, Acrostic, Diamonte, etc.): it must be at least 2 full pages of poetry; this must be typed; a title must be provided

·      Free verse/Narrative poem: it must at least 1 ½ pages in length; this must be typed; a title must be provided

·      Nonfiction piece: it must be at least 2 full pages typed and at least 5 paragraphs in length; a title must be provided

Writing Stages:

·      Prewrite (ideas are organized) 

·      Compose first draft (typed in Google Classroom)

·      Self-revise

·      Peer Conference

·      Edit and revise draft

·      Turn in Final Copy (use first draft that has been revised and edited)

Final Copy Guidelines:

·      Times New Roman

·      Size 12 (body and heading); Size 14 (title)

·      Black Ink

·      Double-spaced

·      Fifth Grade Heading included

·      Title included

·      Only one extra space between paragraphs

Keep the following in mind while you are writing:

·      genre specific details (transition words, time order words, imagery, figurative language, etc.)

·      grammar

·      spelling

·      mechanics

·      correctly using quotes when citing and in discussion
