I am originally from the small town of Sargent, NE and attended school from Kindergarten right through graduation at Sargent High School. I attended the University of Nebraska-Kearney beginning as a Wildlife Biology major before making the change and graduating with an Elementary Education degree and a Biology minor in December of 2003. Following college my wife, Melanie, and I moved to Elm Creek. After substitute teaching for a few years at many area schools I took a position within Loomis Public Schools. We eventually moved to Loomis and have enjoyed living in and being a part of this great small town.
This will be my 19th year working at Loomis Public Schools in various teaching and technology positions. My wife, Melanie, works at First State Bank in Loomis. Our daughter graduated in 2022 from Loomis. She is currently living in University Place, WA with her husband Ashton. She works with ALX Beauty while Ashton is in the Army and stationed at Ft Lewis. Our son is a junior this year in Loomis and keeps us busy with attending many activities.
I have many hobbies and interests but don't always have enough time to enjoy them all. Wrestling is my biggest winter-time interest and seems to keep me busy from November through March. I enjoy coaching the high school wrestlers, the junior high, as well as the elementary kids in the Loomis Wrestling Club. My family spends a lot of time related to wrestling throughout the season and enjoy the relationships that are formed as we go through each year.
We also spend a lot of time at the baseball fields throughout the summer enjoying our evenings there. Wether it be watching our son play baseball or umpiring games most of my evenings in June and July are at a ball field somewhere. When we have a bit of free time in the summer we like being at the lake. We enjoy wakeboarding and other water sports as well as time on the shore hanging out on the beach.
We currently have two large dogs and one cat, but have had many others throughout the years, so I guess you could say we are animal lovers! Most of our dogs have been adopted from various shelters. We even make an occasional trip to a nearby no-kill shelter just to visit the dogs and cats there. Willow, our St. Bernard, often tags along with us as we go. She loves to be out in public and has been to numerous baseball and softball games when the weather is cool enough. She even has gotten to visit the school with me a few times and is rather popular with the kids. Gunnar, a rescue St. Bernard mix, is a bit more shy and anxious and mostly prefers to stay home with Casper the cat.
If you browsed through any of the photos or videos above you probably noticed that our family really was into Halloween. For several years now our church has had an annual Trunk or Treat night. Our family dressed as a group, dogs included, and decorated the vehicle all around a central theme. It is a fun evening as many people within the community get involved. Many times the Halloween dress up has carried into being able to dress up for different themed days at school. Although this has subsided as the kids have grown older the occasional homecoming school dress up day brings out a return from the Freeman family storage tote.
