8^th grade students are provided the opportunity to compete to present the Promotion Speech for their class at the end of the year LUSD 8^th grade promotion ceremony. One student shall be chosen for this honor from HCP. Eligible students, in most cases, have a 4.0 GPA during their entire 8^th grade year as well as citizenship, behavior, and attendance commensurate with receiving this honor. Previous graded years, typically 4^th-7^th grades, will also be used as criteria for Honor Speaker selection. Eligible students submit a letter of interest to the Principal during the 2nd Semester. The speaker is then selected on the basis of a written essay on a topic of the school’s choice. Essay’s are written at school and reviewed by site determined personnel. The nominee will be informed as to their selection.
