Message from Coach Thompson
The “Lion Cub” league and travel team program is a vital building block for the success of our Loogootee Basketball program.  Your son’s participation will assure that he’s being taught the correct fundamentals and offensive/defensive concepts while at the same time having fun learning the game of basketball. Participants will be instructed by the LHS Boys Basketball Staff.  Each child will receive a t-shirt.  

Fundamentals and Fundamental Sessions

The most important piece of the Loogootee Lion Cub program is an emphasis on teaching fundamentals. Under the direction of Coach Thompson, his staff, and Coach Carrico, the Lion Cub Director, we hope to provide fundamental practice sessions that teach the foundational movements and skills involved with running; jumping; dribbling (ball handling); passing; shooting (footwork and mechanics); court vision; teamwork; and sportsmanship. These are the foundations of our basketball program and we want our players to know and understand the expectations that will be carried throughout the program as they get older and progress in our feeder program 5th Grade - Varsity.

League Play (November/December)

Our school league is set up for player in grades 2-3-4 and ran each year during the months of November/December. Sessions will be held in the Activities Center. Sessions will be held on 12/6; 12/13; 120. Wednesday evenings will be practice/fundamentals only and Saturday sessions will be practice followed by games. Travel Teams

Our goal with our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade travel teams is to expose them to competitive play by playing 

JV Half-times

Our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade teams will play at the half-time of all JV boys home games. This allows our young players to play in front of Loogootee Lion fans at the high school games and also gets our players to the games so they can see what they hope to one day be a part of.

Pacers Experience

Along with our partnership with the Pacers we try to have a Lion Cub/Pacers experience each year where players get a ticket to a Pacer game and on court experience at that Pacers game. This year we are targeting the Pacers vs. Bulls game on Wednesday 1/28/26.
