"Our Kind Community"
These titles align with our theme this month "Our Kind Community".
I’m a member of a Raising a Child with a Growth Mindset page on Facebook and this week’s focus is instilling kindness and this webpage was shared with books for kind on how to be kind, activities for home and school. Many of the books are already in heavy rotation but thought some might be of interest.

"Safe Routes" Community
posted Sept. 12, 2017
The Longmeadow Police Department would like to remind parents who have children that walk or ride their bicycles to our elementary and middle schools that Longmeadow is a “Safe Routes” Community. There are twenty three crossing guards strategically positioned at high traffic intersections and crosswalks to ensure your children arrive to school safely and return home safely. We encourage parents to remind their children to cross where there is a crossing guard, to heed the instructions of the crossing guard, and for those who ride their bicycles, wear a helmet. (Required by law 16 and under must wear a helmet)
Last school year, Blueberry Hill School was awarded the “Gold Level Award” for their part in the Massachusetts Safe Routes School Program (SRTS). The Longmeadow Police Department has been working with SRTS and the Principals from each Longmeadow elementary and middle schools to make all the elementary and middle schools a “Gold Level Award” winner.
On October 4th, 2017, the Longmeadow will be participating in International Walk to School Day (iWalk). Members of the Longmeadow Police Department will be walking with elementary school children from Center School, Blueberry Hill School, and Wolf Swamp Road School. This nationwide event allows the Longmeadow Police Department to build a relationship with the children with the focus on demonstrating the importance of pedestrian and bicycle safety.
