From classics to modern favorites, we'll explore a range of stories and characters that will inspire imaginations.

After each story, we'll break out the Lego bricks and get to building! With each new story, we'll challenge you to build something inspired by the characters, setting, or theme of the book. You might build a castle, a spaceship, a magical creature, or anything else that sparks your creativity.

Building with Legos is not only fun, it's a great way to develop spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and fine motor skills. This fun format will let students bring stories to life in a whole new way, as they create their own three-dimensional interpretation of the books we read.

Chess!

Longmeadow Chess Camp (Entering grades 1-8) $95

My name is Nathaniel Neveu and I have served as a private math tutor for 5 years running.  I have also studied chess extensively during high school and college.  My goal is to combine my teaching skills with my knowledge of the game to instill within the student a love and appreciation for chess.  Regardless of level, I will cover the basic rules, tenets, and strategies of chess.  The focus will be on teaching the foundational skills needed to succeed, but students will certainly have the chance to delve deeper into the game if they desire.  I plan to include within the week's curriculum a combination of games, puzzles, and demonstrations taken from both my own collection of lessons and those of other accomplished players.  Students will have the opportunity to play individually and as part of a group, as I intend for this to be a cooperative learning experience!  Boards, pieces, and clocks will be provided.  Above all, my hope is that the student finishes the course more inspired, curious, and excited about learning the game than when they arrived!  A materials fee of $10, payable to the instructor, will be collected on the first day of the course.
