Printmaking (entering grades 3-6). $100
This medium is fun and flexible for all ages, it is perfect for grade school because it has high success. Printmaking is an ancient artistic process where students transfer an inked image onto paper.
It’s a wonderful process that allows students to make multiple images of their ideas. It promotes problem solving by having to adjust their printing plates for better results by adding or subtracting ink and materials. The step by step nature of printing teaches attention to detail, careful planning and neatness. Pulling the first plate is exciting and rewarding.
Re-inventing their original image encourages students to take risks and feel more confident about their final work. Printmaking brings endless possibilities. We will focus on at least four processes;
Gyotaku, fish printing on rice paper.
Collographs- relief printing made with found materials
Rubber eraser cut-outs- used for pattern making
Nature prints- composition of printed leaves, flowers and found objects.
This medium has so many variations for endless creative possibilities. Which makes it a perfect medium for students to get hands on and to express their individuality.
A materials fee of $20, payable to the instructor, is due on the first day of class.
Let’s begin our creative journey together!
