Heart Words
Kindergarten students will learn 50 high-frequency words by the end of the Kindergarten school year. High-frequency words are words we see frequently but are decodable. In Kindergarten, most of the high-frequency words are considered heart words (see below). It is important to note that as students progress in phonemic awareness skills, some heart words will become decodable for them.
