Curriculum / Activities


Units:

  1. Adventure Education

    • Students will learn the names of all the other students in class

    • Students will demonstrate a knowledge of working in groups in order to solve a variety of physical challenges.

    • Students will be able to work together as a team to solve problems.

    • Students will be able to work in various size groups to figure out how to complete physical tasks.

  2. Jump Rope

    • Students will learn which muscle groups are engaged when jumping rope.

    • Students will learn how to take their pulse to see if they are in their target heart rate zone.

    • Students will learn various jumping skills to keep their workout interesting.

    • Students will be able to do at least three different jump rope skills.

    • Students will be able to put together jump rope skills to make a fitness routine.

  3. Dance

    • Students will be able to perform various line dance movements to a variety of different music genres.

    • Students will be able to perform various line dance movements to a variety of musical tempos.

    • Students will know the proper hand position for partner dances.

  4. Water Sports (Basketball and Water Polo)

    • Students will know the rules for water polo.

    • Students will know the rules for water basketball.

    • Students will know the names of the skills for water polo.

    • Students ill know the various scoring methods for water polo and water basketball.

    • Students will be able to shoot both a 2 point and a 3 point basket.

    • Students will be able to use the beater kick.

    • Students will be able to swim with the water polo ball.

    • Students will be able to make three different types of shots in water polo.

    • Students will be able to play defense in both water basketball and water polo.

  5. TRX Suspension Training

    • Students will learn about the concept of functional training.

    • Students will learn the seven foundational movement patters: Plank, Push, Pull, Squat, Lunge, Hinge, and Rotate

    • Students will learn how to adjust the suspension trainer in order to do a complete workout.

    • Students will learn about proper body posture and how that effects muscle movement.

    • Students will learn what the four major concepts of suspension training are and how they apply to movements.

    • Students will know four key components of suspension truing. Posture, keeping straps tight, no sawing, no rubbing.

    • Students will be able to name the four major concepts of TRX Suspension Training. (Strength, Balance, Flexibility, Core Stability)

    • Students will be able to position their bodies away from or towards the anchor point in order to customize the intensity of various movements.

    • Students will be able to perform multiple upper body exercises, lower body exercises, core exercises, and stretches using the suspension trainer.

    • Students will be able to perform multiple TRX exercises that promote the seven foundational movement patterns.

  6. Orienteering/Geocaching

    • Students will be able to identify all parts of a compass.

    • Students will be able to take bearings and follow the direction of travel arrow.

    • Students will be able to determine their own pace (distance traveled per two steps).

    • Students will be able to follow a series of bearings and paces in order to draw various shapes.

    • Students will be able to read the trip computer page and reset it at the end of each class.

    • Students will be able to input coordinates into the GPS in order for them to locate objects.

    • Students will be able to draw a map on the map page by writing their names as they jog around the field.

  7. Ultimate Frisbee

    • Students will know the rules and history of the game of Ultimate.

    • Students will be able to perform the backhand , flick, and hammer throws.

    • Students will be able to make up and use three offensive strategies.

    • Students will be able to play person to person defense as well as zone defense.
