Welcome to the Center School Library Media Center!

At Center, all students visit our library for one 45 minute class each week. In addition to our regular read aloud and book discussion, students learn to search our school library's online catalog to find a book on our shelves, access SORA, the electronic library available to them in and out of school hours, use databases to find information that they need or simply are interested in, explore the criteria for award winning children's literature, and whenever possible, we include time to read independently and use literacy based centers. Library visits help to build and reinforce a love of reading and development of habits that lead to successful lifelong learning. Students are encouraged to return the library books they borrow on their scheduled library day each week, or renew any books they haven't had a chance to finish. Throughout the year and especially at the beginning of the year, we learn about book care, discuss keeping our library books in a spot that's easy to remember, and bringing our books back each week.

The computer use agreement that students sign at the beginning of the year includes use of technology while they are in the library, and we discuss good digital citizenship practices throughout the year.

Family volunteers in the library are very important to us! If you're interested in volunteering in our library, please stop in to the main office to fill out the required CORI form (you'll need to bring a valid ID.) The Center School PTO coordinates the library volunteer schedule. We'd love to have you!
