What is MTSS?
MTSS stands for Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. MTSS is the structure of support that Longmeadow Public Schools uses to build a system of practices, supports, and intervention that ensures all students receive a high quality educational experience.
TIERS OF SUPPORT
There are three tiered systems of support within the framework of MTSS:
Tier 1, Primary Level:
Core Instruction and support
-------------------------------------
What does this look like?
Tier 1 is high quality instructional strategies and support provided in the general education setting by general education staff.
Tier 2, Secondary Level:
Targeted Supplemental Instruction and Intervention
-------------------------------------
What does this look like?
Students in Tier 2 still attend Tier 1 lessons. They will also receive more targeted support through small group intervention. This may take place in the math or reading center.
Tier 3, Tertiary Level:
Intensive Individualized Instruction and Intervention
-------------------------------------
What does this look like?
Tier 3 is intensive, individualized intervention(s) typically recommended by special education providers for students who do not respond to targeted interventions in the first two tiers. This may take place In a 1:1 or small group setting in and/or out of the classroom. Students may continue to receive tier 1 and tier 2 support depending on their individual needs.
