Language
I can learn the meanings of the words recycle, reuse, and reduce.
Technology
I can learn about recycling by watching videos online and reading online books.
Procedure
This project is ongoing throughout the school year. The kindergarten/5th grade buddies will meet on a weekly basis ranging from 20-40 minutes. In order to introduce the content to the kindergarteners, the lessons will be on multiple days as follows:
The focus for the ELLs in the class is to learn the new vocabulary words, reduce, reuse, recycle, paper, plastic, glass.
Students will watch the video, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, on www.brainpopjr.com in order to activate prior knowledge and build background.
In the next lesson, students will read an emergent reader, The Three R’s.
Students will be prompted to ask questions based on the pictures and vocabulary in the book.
They will then play a whole class game on www.wordwall.net to reinforce the new vocabulary.
In the next lesson, the students will play a sorting game of paper, plastic, and glass in order to properly categorize objects.
Resources and Other Materials

Reflection
This is an ongoing project conducted throughout the school year. The kindergarten students love having buddies in the older grades. They enjoy this weekly activity. The technology used helps to support the developing English language of the ELLs.
