This project explored the impact of the arts on culture worldwide. Students researched a significant cultural figure from their home countries, examining their biography, birthplace, birthdate, contributions, and personal significance. Using Canva, students designed engaging newsletters to showcase their findings. This digital learning experience fostered research skills, creativity, and cultural awareness, allowing students to connect their heritage with global artistic influence.
I can research and analyze the impact of a cultural figure from my home country, explaining their contributions to the arts and society.
I can summarize key biographical details and explain the significance of my chosen figure using clear and well-structured sentences.
I can use Canva to design a visually engaging newsletter that presents my research in an organized and creative way.
Procedure and Student Engagement
Introduction: Students discussed how the arts shape culture and brainstormed influential figures from their home countries. A model newsletter sets expectations and models the assignment.
Research: Using databases and their chromebooks, students will gather biographical details and significance. Graphic organizers, sentence starters, and bilingual resources supported different language levels.
Technology: Students will use Canva to design newsletters, incorporating research, images, and visual literacy skills. Students will create audio and visual recordings through Canva to add dimension and tell the story of their figure.
Feedback: Peer reviews, teacher support, and structured discussions helped refine content and language.
Presentation: Students will showcase newsletters in a gallery walk, engaging in discussions, and reflecting on the cultural impact of their chosen figure.
