I can use a checklist to self-evaluate the structure, development, and conventions of my informational book.
I can read an article and summarize it using my own words and key details (name, date, main idea, today’s impact).
I can write a thesis statement about an environmental topic and support it with information summarized from various articles.
I can use BookCreator to organize the key elements of informational writing.
Students chose a global topic they were interested in learning about using the topics provided. Using Padlet, students had access to a variety of informational tools (articles, videos) and took notes by summarizing important information about their topic. Students organized the notes into an informational e-book using BookCreator.

Student Information Writing Organizer for Book Creator creation
Students were very engaged in this lesson since they chose their topics to research. The graphic organizers helped students stay organized and focused on their research. This was a co-taught lesson so both teachers were able to circulate and meet with individual students and small groups. Students were able to research in their native languages if they needed to. Students read articles online as well as books from the school library.
