  • Students will be informally assessed throughout the lesson with verbal prompts, their pronoun chart, and observations of conversations.

  • Students will be formally assessed through the independent practice worksheet and the Kahoot activity.

Description

Students will review the definition of a noun and will be introduced to the definition of a pronoun. Students will participate in an interactive activity showing how they can use other words to replace or substitute a noun (pronouns). After this lesson students will be able to understand and use pronouns appropriately.

I can use Book Creator to create stories using the correct pronouns in my writing and engage in a Kahoot game demonstrating my skills.

Procedure

  1. Students will start the lesson in a teacher lead discussion identifying nouns (person, place or thing) and introducing pronouns. Students will participate in an interactive lesson reading a story from ReadWorks and working as a class to change the story to include appropriate pronouns.

  2. Students will work in groups and read the story Are You My Mother? By P.D. Eastman. Students will identify the pronouns used in the story and complete a pronoun chart.

  3. Students will work independently to complete independent practice worksheets from ReadWorks.

  4. Students will end the lesson with a teacher made Kahoot activity assessing their understanding of pronouns.

Resources and Other Materials

Reflection

This lesson was effective in educating students on appropriate use of pronouns. The technology used during this lesson brought excitement and motivation to students while acting as a tool to present the content and information. Students used ReadWorks and Kahoot to help guide the lesson and to assess their understanding of the subject matter.
