They have been utilizing the Common Sense Media curriculum for the different lessons and discussions/activities. Students learned about making healthy media choices, private vs. personal information, digital footprints, keeping games fun and friendly, cyberbullying, and news & literacy media. Students also watched different BrainPOP videos to further their knowledge of digital citizenship throughout the unit.

First, students will discuss the different ways to be an ideal digital citizen and the teacher will chart student responses.

Next, the teacher will introduce students to the checklist and rubric to discuss expectations of the project.

Then, the teacher will assign students a template for the project using Google Classroom.

Finally, students will independently work on projects (with teacher assistance if necessary).

Reflection

Learning about digital citizenship is such a relevant and important topic for our students. As we learn and grow in the 21st century, students must be equipped with the tools and skills to act responsibly online. My fourth grade students learned a lot and greatly enjoyed demonstrating their knowledge through the creation of the Google Slide presentations.
