Below you will find tips for helping your child improve keyboarding skills-
To help with finger placement place two different stickers or nail polish colors on the F and J keys on the keyboard to help your child "anchor" their fingers.
Place stickers on all of the home row keys.
If you are going to stay and help your child, you can put a different colored marker dot on each finger and if they have difficulty depressing the right key with the correct finger you can tell them which color finger to use.
Put a line down the center of the keyboard (you may need to get creative with how you do this) so your child can start to distinguish which side they should use with the left hand and which side to use with the right hand.
When using one of the below typing links, put paper or cloth over your child's hands so they cannot look at their hands when typing.
Smaller keyboards, such as a Chromebook, may be more appropriate for younger children. Small keyboard for small hands.
Keyboarding Game: The attached game is a sample of a game to play to learn keyboard key placement. You can take construction paper and write letters with a black marker and place them on the floor in the same order that the letters are on a keyboard. You can say a letter and have your child throw a beanbag on the correct letter. With practice they will start to learn where the letters are located on the keyboard.
