Long Branch High School offers three levels of TV/Film Production.

TV & Film I

This is an introductory course in digital filmmaking. Students will learn the fundamentals of producing, directing and writing as well as basic digital filmmaking skills including but not limited to, camera operation, lighting, sound recording, editing, and scriptwriting. They will be able to examine various forms of media and the positive and negative aspects of digital media creation and use. They will also analyze film throughout the year from various eras and genres.

TV & Film II

In this course students will refine the skills and concepts learned in TV & Film I and be immersed in the field of TV production. They will be introduced to the field of broadcast journalism where they will write, produce, and edit a weekly news show broadcasted at the High School. In this course students will get a chance to assume every role within a studio setting including but not limited to, director, technical director, audio operator, boom operator, gaffer/lighting tech, teleprompter operator, camera operator, floor manager, editor, and talent. Most projects will be geared to the field of broadcast journalism and students will spend most of their time inside the studio working with broadcasting equipment.

TV & Film III

In this course students will continue to build a foundation of knowledge and skills through hands-on experience operating professional television production equipment in the field and studio. In addition to creating new weekly broadcasts, they will also write and produce a live-to-tape show to be filmed in front of a live audience. Students will continue to rotate studio positions including director, producer, technical director, audio operator, gaffer/lighting tech, teleprompter operator, camera operator, floor manager, editor, and talent. They will also be introduced to other studio positions including audience coordination, set design and maintenance, graphis operator, scheduling and promotional directing and social media managing.

The goal of this course is to not only further teach students about production but to also teach them skills that are applicable in other daily life tasks. Students will learn and develop creative thinking, critical thinking, communication skills, problem solving skills, working with others, time management, writing tools, and more.
