District Speech Contest at Lone Tree

Coaches Information

Lone Tree High School is proud to be hosting District Large Group Speech Contest on Saturday, January 25. The following information will hopefully answer many of your questions. Please feel free to e-mail our contest manager (Tanya McCarty) with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at tmccarty@lonetreecsd.org. Our school address is 303 S. Devoe Street, Lone Tree, IA 52755.

Please check in at the high school office (on the second floor) when you arrive. If you have any changes to report, please let us know when you check in.

WEATHER RELATED ANNOUNCEMENTS

If we should have questionable weather, any delays or cancellations will be broadcast on local TV and radio stations. If we know in advance of any problems, we will be in contact with you the day before contest. You may also keep an eye on this and the IHSSA website. We will delay as a first option, if necessary.

TV NEWS AND SHORT FILM INFORMATION

Remember that you are to provide your own equipment for this. We will have carts to set up located outside the performance areas.

LOADING/UNLOADING/PARKING INSTRUCTIONS

CONTEST FEE/PROGRAMS

There will be a $3 suggested donation for all guests to the contest as recommended by the IHSSA. Programs will be $2. As always, performing students and coaches will be admitted at no charge. We would advise you to make copies of your school’s schedule for your students. Please be sure to tell your team’s supporters your SCHOOL CODE so they can find your performances.

SCHOOL MAP

The performance centers will be clearly marked and maps of the school will be available on our website and in the program. We will be utilizing rooms in various areas in the school. We will have a large amount of signage, as well as volunteers helping with directions. We recommend you have your students find their performance centers when they arrive at the school to ensure they know where to go! The good news is that since our school is quite small, it isn't difficult to navigate!

VIDEO/PHOTOGRAPHY

Please remind spectators that photography and videotaping during any performance are strictly prohibited unless they have permission from the state office.

TEAM HEADQUARTERS

The south gym (the largest and closest to the parking lot) will serve as a home base for all students during the day. Please remind students not to bring items that will cause headaches or disrupt the contest. These include basketballs, footballs, and loud music. The locker rooms will also be available as dressing/make-up rooms.

COMMENT SHEETS

Don’t forget your comment sheets! Please have them filled out and ready to go. If you should happen to need comment sheets, they will be available for purchase in the high school office.

Once all of your ratings have been posted for the entire day, you may pick up your comment sheets in the Contest Headquarters (high school office). If you are leaving before all of your ratings are posted, you may leave a self-addressed/stamped envelope in the office, and we will gladly send them to you.

RATINGS

Ratings will be posted in the south gym as well as on our website.

CONTEST SCHEDULE

Remember that performance times are approximate. Please inform your students to let their parents and friends know about this information. We don’t want anyone missing a performance that they want to see. Please make sure that parents are aware of your school code.

Encourage your performers (and their audience) to arrive early. Again, maps and signage will help, but centers may also run early or late.

FOOD

We will be offering concessions all day in our cafeteria as well as a concession stand located outside team headquarters. There isn't much else here in little Lone Tree in terms of places to eat, so we'll do our best to offer a variety of foods!

NOISE

Help us in patrolling the hallways for noise! We want a contest environment that is conducive to performing. It all boils down to a matter of respect. We feel that we all can do a better job while walking by or standing outside of centers. Thank you in advance for your assistance!
