Attendance Initiative: Students who maintain 95% attendance during 1st quarter will earn the opportunity to eat lunch off campus. On October 24th, qualifying students will walk with administration and teachers to Subway, Sonic, or the Mexican restaurant during 4th hour. Students must bring their own money for lunch.
Since 1st quarter has 40 days, students may miss up to 2 unexcused days and still qualify. Absences covered with a doctor’s note will not count toward the 2 days. Please remember that if a physical doctor’s note has not been turned in to Mrs. Gillespie, the absence is considered unexcused and will count toward the limit. You can turn in those doctor's notes anytime to make those changes. I will run attendance numbers at the end of today. If you receive an email invite, that means your child qualified for lunch off campus. If you do not want your child to participate and stay at school, please respond to that invitation.
Parent Teacher Conferences
For 6th grade, each core teacher has a sign up link. Please use the links to schedule meetings with the teacher or teachers you’d like to visit. Conferences will be held in their individual classrooms.
For 7th and 8th grade, core teachers will be following their scheduled appointment times that you previously sign up for. We understand there weren’t enough slots for everyone, so families are welcome to drop by if you didn't have an appointment time. We know this isn’t ideal, but these teachers serve both 7th and 8th grade students.
We apologize in advance if there is a short wait outside their doors. Chairs will be available, or you’re welcome to visit the gym to meet with any of our elective teachers while you wait.
Student of the Month: October! Congratulations on being a "scary good student." Your kindness and positive personality really stand out. You will receive your certificate and photo on Monday October 20th. Also, you will be interviewed to be on Welcome to the Pen and receive a sonic drink.
6th Grade: Madison Wheeler & Liam Throgmorton
7th Grade: Delaney Clemons & Ashur Crenshaw
8th Grade: Laney Franklin & Eli Bruner

Core Teacher's Newsletter
At the top of this newsletter, you’ll find buttons linking to the 6th Grade Teacher Newsletter and the 7th & 8th Grade Teacher Newsletter. Please take a moment to check these for important updates and announcements from your child’s core teachers. I will put those links here as well. These links will never change through out the year.
