Rules and Policies
Backpacks: Binders are necessary for carrying items to classes. Backpacks are to be put in lockers upon arrival and taken home upon dismissal. Backpacks are not to be taken into classrooms; this includes purses, drawstring bags, crossbody bags, or any other type of smaller bag.
Late Work: The expectation is that you submit all assignments on time. Late work is accepted, within two weeks of the due date, but you will lose 30% of your earned grade.
Any work turned in after two weeks past the due date is not eligible for credit and will result in a zero.
Makeup Work: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to follow proper procedures to ensure that you receive your work and communicate with the teacher the timeframe that assignments need to be completed. Unless stated otherwise, you will have the number of days you were absent to complete the assignments for full credit.
**Example: You missed 2 days of school, so you have 2 days past the original due date to turn in assignments that were missed.
Retest Policy: Students can request a retest opportunity by filling out an ACCOUNTABILITY FORM available in the classroom and following the procedures listed in detail on pg 13 in the student handbook. Students are allowed to have 2 retakes per semester per class.
Tardies: Tardies will be issued for each of the following:
Being late to class
Having to return to locker for forgotten items
Using the restroom during class without teacher permission (unless it is an emergency)
*3 tardies will result in 1 day of private dining
*5 tardies will result in detention
If a student reaches 10 tardies, they will receive 1 day of ISS.
Course Descriptions:
SCIENCE:
Key concepts about Earth, Life, and Physical Science will be the focus. Group and individual projects, as well as note-taking with clear expectations, are a large part of classwork.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
The themes for this year are focused on the tools of social science inquiry. Our topics will be the following: early civilizations (geography’s impact on history), classical civilizations, and the Middle Ages (regional interconnectedness and conflict). We will be diving into the decisions that were made in the past and how they shaped the world around us today.
MATH:
Students will understand and apply knowledge on the following: Numerical Expressions and Factors; Operations with Fractions and Decimals; Ratios, Rates and Percents; Algebraic Expressions and Properties; Equations and Inequalities; Area, Surface Area and Volume; Statistical Measures and Data Display. .
WRITING
Our focus this school year will be learning and developing our skills as critical thinkers, writers, speakers, and listeners. The development and mastery of these important literary skills is not only important to achieving success in the Language Arts classroom, it is a critical component of achieving success in other school subjects.
READING
Students will approach texts as a reader by comprehending and interpreting grade-appropriate literacy texts. This will be accomplished as a class, in small groups, and individually.
Discipline
If you are not following school wide or classroom expectations:
Step 1: Warning - Moved to the safe seat
Step 2: Buddy room
Step 3: Sent to the principal’s office
*Discipline for Cheating or Plagiarism is an automatic zero for that assignment and an office referral.
Allowing someone to copy on an assignment or use your notes on a quiz/tests are examples of cheating and will result in both students receiving a zero.
Food/Drinks
In class no food, candy or gum is allowed. Also, only water is allowed.
Cell Phones
Cell phones need to be turned off and placed in lockers from 7:50 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
They are not to be out during school hours, including lunch and passing time.
Consequences for cell phone violations:
1st Offense: Administration picks up the phone and meets with the student. Parents are contacted.
2nd/3rd Offense: Administration picks up the phone and parents must come pick up the phone from school.
4th Offense:
Cell phone plan goes into effect; student’s cell phone will be turned into the office at the start of the school day and it will be returned at the conclusion of the day.
