Sadly, The Outsiders unit has come to an end, but everyone really seemed to love it! I will be working on grading the Character Sketch posters. I probably won't get grades put in for those until after spring break; they take a considerable amount of time to complete. We are now starting our grammar unit, which is quite extensive, over subjects, verbs and prepositions as well as simple, compound, complex, and compound/complex sentences. Be watching for an email from me about the quizzes over prepositions. The first quiz over the A-B words will be Monday the 9th.
Math
Students are currently working on ratios and proportional relationships by focusing on percent concepts and applications. Students learn to represent percents as decimals, fractions, and complex fractions, including values greater than 100% and less than 1%, and use algebra to solve multi-step percent problems such as markups, markdowns, and percent error. They also apply percent to scale drawings and real-world situations, including population, mixtures, and counting problems.
Math Accelerated
Students are currently wrapping up their module over percents as decimals, fractions, and complex fractions, including values greater than 100% and less than 1%, and use algebra to solve multi-step percent problems such as markups, markdowns, and percent error. They will soon begin exploring probability by interpreting and calculating probabilities in simple situations and estimating them through experiments, simulations, and tools like tree diagrams. They compare theoretical and simulated probabilities, analyze compound events, and use probability to make decisions. The module also introduces inferential reasoning, where students use random samples to draw conclusions about populations and compare groups while considering sampling variability.
Civics
We are now in the middle of our Judicial Branch unit in Civics. We have been examining the different levels of our federal courts as well as the precedents or standards that our Supreme Court sets for our federal government. We have currently been analyzing the importance of Judicial Review set by our Supreme Courts and how the courts interact with branches of government. We just completed a formative quiz last week and the scores should be reflected on Infinite Campus. As always, please reach out if you ever need anything from me.
Science
7th Grade has just started a unit over the foundations of chemistry. In this unit students learn about atoms and matter and the different properties of matter. Their test over this unit will be on March 12th. After spring break students will begin learning about the periodic table. That unit will end with a project where students design a superhero based on an element's properties!
