Homework: The district recommends that 5th graders should have 50 minutes (10 min x grade level) of homework nightly. In Room 31, homework won’t typically equate to a direct nightly total. Our main homework will be the ongoing “Great Genre Challenge” reading goal (which will also include Battle of the Books starting in January), a spelling skill practice page, and some kind of math work that correlates with our classroom skill. If homework ever takes more than 50 minutes, please reach out - I don’t want homework to become a battle in your home.
Occasionally I will assign other nightly work and, throughout the year, there will be projects to be completed at home.
Additionally, each weekend I like to assign a “home skill” that encourages students to contribute to their home, like laundry, cooking, cleaning, vacuuming, etc. Need anything done around the house? Let me know! 😉
Below you can find information about the Great Genre Challenge as well as some math resources that may be helpful. I will add tools here as the year goes on.
