TRYOUTS / AUDITIONS

All interested dancers and returning members of the team will be required to re-audition for a spot on the team each school year. This means that you will not be guaranteed a position on the team just because you were on the team the previous year.  Anyone not in attendance at our audition will have to wait until the following school year and they are encouraged to join the Dance Club. Auditions are held in the summer before the following school year so that new members may attend summer dance camp to prepare for the Old Home Days parade and competition routines.

New dancers should take a look at our "year in review" videos below to see what skill level they are expected to have. Dance team members are usually top performers at their respective studios and also members of other competition teams. For tryouts, candidates are taught a short choreography which they will then perform along with returning dancers in front of a panel of judges. Judges provide scores based on each dancer's technique, ability to quickly pick up choreography, and enthusiasm (stage presence). Dancers should wear comfortable clothing and bring jazz shoes. Dancers who do not make the team are encouraged to continue training and try out again the following year.

You should also review the "Dance Team Contract" to make sure you can commit to the rules and dates.
