Homework - Per the district, students in second grade should engage in at least 20 minutes of nightly homework!
To work toward mastery of math facts, I ask that your student work on Reflex (go to resource page) at home for at least 15 minutes, twice a week. There is nothing to hand in for this as I see student activity from my account. Each trimester students are assessed on how many addition and subtraction problems they can complete in an allotted amount of time. Flashcards is also another great tool to help with this skill.
I encourage you to set goals with your student on what books they would like to read monthly. You will receive monthly Books and Beyond reading logs, which students will earn prizes just from passing it in. We go to the library once a week, but if a child wants to go to get anther book during the week, I always allow that! Check out the Leach Library in town, too! :)
Students should know all Grade 2 Trick Words by the end of the year, Using and spelling them. I send home lists of words that follow our weekly spelling patterns weekly. We do practice as much as we can in school, but doing so at home will help increase their scores on our Friday check ins!
We have iReady twice a week, on these days our schedule may differ.
Every other week we get the opportunity to welcome both of our awesome guidance counselors Mrs. Costa and Mrs. Munsey into our classroom where they do lessons on a variety of topics.
.Important classroom reminders:
Books and Beyond due the first of every month
Homework bingo due every month
