Arts, Music & Performance
Art / Arte .5 year / .5 año
Studio art class covers the seven elements of art and art history. Students work with pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, computer, chalk, oil pastel, watercolor, tempera, acrylic, fabric paint, murals, clay, ceramic wheels, sculpture, and collage.

Beginning Band / Banda para Principiantes 1 year / 1 año
For students who would like to learn a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. Students begin with the basics of holding the instrument and producing sound, and perform in winter and spring concerts.

Beginning Guitar / Guitarra para Principiante .5 year / .5 año
Students learn the basics of playing guitar, the history of the instrument, influential guitarists, and the role of guitar in modern production. The course also introduces music theory, simple scales and chords, and proper playing techniques.

Students sing every day with an emphasis on rehearsal and performance of popular and Broadway music for mixed choir. Instruction includes breath control, reading music, rehearsal, and interpretation skills. Concerts are required, with the possibility of additional performances on and off campus.

Students learn about Mexican regional dances and culture, including food, recipes, traditions, folk tales, and folkloric dances. The class coordinates a spring 5 de Mayo event.

Fiber Arts / Artes Textiles. 5 year / .5 año
Students gain hands-on skills through historic and contemporary textile techniques and experimental approaches to creating three-dimensional art from fibers. Activities include dyeing, piecing, printing, stitching, marbling, and binding textiles.

Students learn digital layout, design, and illustration through project-based learning. Topics include foundational design principles, concept development, color theory, typography, and current graphics software.

Students examine science concepts related to food while building skills in food preparation, food selection, nutrition analysis, problem solving, and critical thinking.

Fitness Exploration / Exploración de la Aptitud Física .5 year / .5 año
Students explore ways to stay active and build healthy habits through strength training, cardio circuits, spin, yoga, stretching, core training, and recreational fitness games. The focus is on personal growth, goal setting, self-awareness, effort, and overall well-being rather than competition.
Los estudiantes exploran formas de mantenerse activos y desarrollar hábitos saludables mediante entrenamiento de fuerza, cardio, giramiento, yoga, estiramientos, fortalecimiento del conjunto de los músculos y juegos recreativos. Introduction to Agriculture / Introducción a la Agricultura .5 year / .5 año
Students build a foundation in agricultural sciences, including animal and plant science, agricultural mechanics, and the scientific method. Leadership topics include public speaking, parliamentary procedure and debate, career development events, supervised agriculture experience projects, record keeping, and agricultural careers.

PLTW: Flight and Space / Vuelo y Espacio (S1), Automation & Robotics / Automatización y Robótica (S2) 1 year / 1 año
Students become engineers as they design, prototype, and test models to learn about the science of flight and what it takes to travel and live in space. They solve real-world aviation and space challenges and plan a mission to Mars.
Students explore the history and impact of automation and robotics, including mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Using the VEX Robotics platform, students design and program traffic lights, robotic arms, and more.

Represents the goals and interests of the LVMS student body. Students learn about democratic government through student leadership, hands-on projects, formal meetings, and school activities. Students are required to work beyond regular class time. Admission is subject to formal recommendations and teacher approval. Students must attend training before the school year and assist with 7th grade orientation.

An introductory course for students with no background in Spanish. Students develop basic communication skills through everyday conversations, simple authentic texts, writing, and research into the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

Builds on Spanish A by expanding vocabulary and grammatical structures for everyday communication. Students develop greater fluency, express themselves with more detail, and research topics related to the history and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Appropriate for students with limited background in Spanish.

The Dual Language Immersion program develops bilingualism and biliteracy. Students compare Spanish and English language systems, build sociocultural competency, study themes connected to AP Spanish Language and Culture, and participate in literary circles to prepare toward the California State Seal of Biliteracy.
El programa de Inmersión Bilingüe desarrolla el bilingüismo y la alfabetización bilateral. Los estudiantes comparan los sistemas lingüísticos del español y del inglés, desarrollan competencia sociocultural, estudian temas relacionados con AP Lengua y Cultura Española y participan en círculos literarios para prepararse para el Sello de Alfabetización Bilingüe del Estado de California.
