Mrs. Daniel's Homework Policy

Thank you for your support and commitment to your child's success in Fourth Grade. I look forward to working closely with you this year as your child works, learns, and grows!

"At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents."

- Jane D. Hull

Why I assign homework:

I believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school. I give homework because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, and helps me to identify where students need additional instruction. In addition, I believe that it helps teach responsibility and development of positive study habits

When homework will be assigned:

Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Assignments should take students no more than 25 - 30 minutes, not including nightly reading.

Student’s homework responsibilities:

I expect students to do their best on their homework. I expect homework to be completed neatly. Parental assistance is recommended when students have given their best effort, but are still having trouble understanding concepts. I expect that all assignments will be turned in on time with sensitivity to any family or personal emergency or unforeseen situation.

Teacher homework responsibilities:

I will check all homework. This does NOT mean that a grade will be assigned to all homework. I strongly believe in the value positive support plays in motivating children to develop good study habits.

Parent homework responsibilities:

Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I appeal to parents to make homework a top priority by providing necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, and provide praise and support. * It is recommended that parents sign student’s homework planners each night upon completion of homework. This helps to ensure the awareness of homework being assigned, that students have completed the assignment(s) correctly.

If students do not complete homework:

If homework is consistently forgotten or incomplete, parents will be contacted via Class Dojo in most cases. If there is a legitimate reason why a student isn’t able to finish homework, please send a signed note, e-mail or message to me on the day that the homework is due.
