The Cabrillo HS Performing Arts Pathway in CTE focuses on the direct creation of performance art by the individual artist instead of through a secondary physical medium. Performing artists are themselves, the medium of creative expression. It is a three year program. Starting in Fall 2021.
DRAMA/MUSICAL THEATER 1 - P CAREER TECH ED (INTRODUCTORY)

Homework: Line memorization, in class performances, and written assignments. Students must attend all CHS mainstage productions.
This class is aimed at the student who wants a general survey in theater. The course will include theater history, theater analysis, theater terminology, styles/genres of theater, play reading, scene work, movement, diction, audition skills, and improvisation. The class will furnish the foundation necessary for the student who wants to be a theater major or who wants to get involved in CHS mainstage productions. There will be a strong emphasis on reading, writing, group collaboration and communication skills. Students will gain theatrical experience through project based learning by performing in class for their peers. Students may also have the opportunity to learn about stage lighting, make-ups, props, sound, costuming, and scenery construction/painting.
MUSICAL THEATER 2 - P CAREER TECH ED (CONCENTRATOR)

Prerequisites: Completion of Musical Theater 1 with a passing grade of B or better, 2.0 GPA for outside class performances
Homework: Rehearsals and performances as assigned (in class and afterschool). Scene writing, critiques of performances.
Students must attend all CHS mainstage productions.
Musical Theater 2 is designed to put the skills learned in Musical Theater 1 into practice through theatrical productions. This will include performing in and/or learning technical crew positions for the main stage class productions. Performances include: Fall Evening of the Arts, Winter Play, Spring Variety Show. In addition to main stage productions, students will add to their theater skills by taking quarterly workshops. Workshops rotate yearly and may include: movement, audition skills, script writing, stage makeup, scene acting/creating, monologue study, stage combat, group musical song singing/staging, children’s theater, dance basics and set/prop building. Students will begin to create their theater portfolio/body of work and start their theater resume. Opportunities to attend/watch local professional theatrical performances (PCPA) and touring Broadway performances (Pantages Theater and Ahmanson Theaters in LA) will be offered.
ADVANCED DRAMA / MUSICAL THEATER (AMT)- P CAREER TECH ED (CAPSTONE)

Prerequisites: Drama/Musical Theater 2 with a B or better and instructor approval, 2.0 GPA for outside class performances
Homework: Rehearsals and performances as assigned (in class and afterschool). Scene writing, critiques of performances. Students must attend all CHS mainstage productions.
Advanced Musical Theater is designed to give students leadership opportunities in the main stage and in class productions and continue to build on their skills from MT1 and MT2. This will include performing in and/or learning technical crew positions for the main stage class productions. Students will also have directing opportunities as an AMT class member. Performances include: Fall Evening of the Arts, Winter Play, Spring Variety Show. AMT students will have the opportunity to take advanced levels of workshops they started in MT2. Students will complete their theater portfolio/body of work, update their theater resume and prepare for potential college auditions. Opportunities to attend/watch local professional theatrical performances (PCPA) and touring Broadway performances (Pantages Theater and Ahmanson Theaters in LA) will be offered.
