Mr. McKinney

Hello all! My name is Mitchel McKinney and this is my first year within the Logan-Magnolia Community School District. I am teaching the Junior and Senior English Language Art classes along with Freshman Seminar.

I was born and raised in Underwood, Iowa. My family has been attending St. Anne's Catholic Church here in Logan for over a decade. Therefore, I am familiar with the area and excited to be a part of this fantastic community.

I graduated from Underwood High School in 2010 and continued my education at the University of Iowa to pursue English Literature and Writing. After graduation, I accepted a position as a Mental Health Crisis Interventionist for Johnson County, Iowa. I enjoyed this experience, but after a few years I realized that in order to move upwards I would have to completely re-do my undergraduate degree. Instead, I did some soul-searching and some volunteering in the community. I quickly found myself in the classroom. A place where I could blend my passion for reading/writing and creating a positive impact on the community. I graduated from the University of Iowa College of Education with a degree in Secondary English Education and obtained my initial teaching license in December 2019.

This is quite the year to begin teaching! Almost every individual is experiencing and processing this global pandemic differently. I keep this in mind when planning lessons. Every lesson, material, assignment, quiz etc... will be on Google Classroom this year. I certainly hope we can have a healthy year, but if that is not the case then students and parents will have access to all the course materials.

I'm looking forward to beginning my career within the Logan-Magnolia Community School District. Everyone has been helpful and supportive. If you need to reach me for any questions or concerns, then you can contact me via email mmckinney@lomaschools.org or via school phone with the extension 1119.

Let's have a productive and healthy school year!
