CA has now adopted the new History / Social Studies Framework. This new Framework does not replace the 1998 Standards but it does introduce new instructional practices that are more in line with the Common Core and the skills that are required in a 21st century classroom. Below you will find links to the new CA History / Social Studies Framework as well as the 1998 CA State standards. Below is also a link to the National Social studies C3 Framework which was used as a Blue Print for our CA Framework.
CA History / Social Studies Framework. It is important that you read Chapter 1 (the Introduction), that deals with the over all changes to the framework as well as the vision for Social Studies inquiry. You should also ready your Grade Span Chapter and your individual Grade Level Chapter. Don't forget to check out the appendixes that can help with evaluation of materials, assessment, as well as other instructional help.
This link will take yo to the 1998 State History / Social Standards. These have not changed with the adoption of the new Framework. It is important that teachers are familiar with their grade level standards to make sure they know what is the focus for their grade level. the standards should work hand in hand with the Framework.
