Eligibility - To be eligible for membership in the Thomas Jefferson Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, a student must be a current member of the 7th or 8th grade class at TJMS and been enrolled in the school for at least two marking periods. Students must also have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 from the previous school year.
Selection - Once eligibility is determined, candidates must complete the TJMS National Junior Honor Society Candidate Information Form to be considered for induction. A Faculty Council, comprised of five teachers, will review the submitted forms and evaluate each candidate. A majority vote must be achieved for a student to be selected for membership.
Non-selection - Non-selected students in the 7th grade will be invited to fill out a Candidate Information Form again in the 8th grade, as long as their cumulative GPA remains at or above 3.75. Any student who wishes to appeal a decision of non-selection may do so by submitting a letter to Ms. Heismeyer explaining why he/she feels their application for membership should be reconsidered. Please use blue or black pen to hand-write the letter, which should be one to two paragraphs in length. The appeals process closes two weeks after initial decision letters are distributed.
