Hello! This is my eighth year in Lockhart ISD, but not my seventh year teaching! I am starting my 32nd year of teaching. I taught in Round Rock ISD for 23 years before coming to Lockhart and in New Mexico prior to that.
I started my teaching career as a 5th grade teacher and quickly moved into teaching K-5 gifted students. I have a bachelor's degree in Humanities and also one in Elementary Education. I am certified to teach through middle school, and also have GT and ESL certifications. I am currently serving as the K-12 representative on the TAGT (Texas Association for Gifted and Talented) Board of Directors.
I have been married to my best friend for 38 years. We live in New Braunfels, home of Schlitterbahn. When I am not thinking about how to make learning more meaningful for G/T students, I am tubing on the river, water skiing on the lake, or reading in my backyard. I have two sons. The oldest, Justin, is currently living in Colorado. He is a graduate of Sam Houston University. He is working on TV and film production and editing. When he is not working in film, he works for a moving company. My younger son, James, is married and living in Washington. He is a graduate of UTSA and is currently working as an insurance underwriter.
My other interests include cooking, reading, camping, scrapbooking, singing in my church choir, and scuba diving.
Since arriving in Lockhart, I have been working hard to improve the program for gifted and talented students. I am currently serving students on three campuses. My schedule is usually as follows:
Monday, Navarro and Lockhart Junior High
Tuesday, Bluebonnet all day
Wednesday, Navarro and Lockhart Junior High
Thursday, Bluebonnet all day
Friday, testing and administrator duties in the am and gifted planning meeting in the afternoon
