Programs

Our Programs are Awesome!

The goal of our Local Tech Heroes programs is to offer our innovative experiences to as many students as possible through a combination of camps, classes and workshops throughout the year so that students are challenged, equipped, and empowered to solve big problems in their communities.

Each program combines 3 key ingredients:

In addition to our successful Summer camps, we also have curriculum in place to offer after-school and in-school classes to continue these collaborations once the Summer ends for extended learning opportunities.

By continuing to connect Central Ohio businesses with schools and communities during the school year, we hope to continue these innovative programs year round. Read more about each Program we’ve completed by using the links below.

During January and February 2020, 4th-8th graders at the South Side location of Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus will learn design and prototyping skills, use 3D printing to solve problems. Additionally, students, BGCC staff and volunteers will have the option to participate in a related study conducted by Ohio State researchers!

From August 5 - 30, 2019, Local Tech Heroes will be partnering with Columbus VAACC (Chalmers P. Wylie Ambulatory Care Center) to host the Innovation Station.

FREE and open to the public, the Innovation Station is a pop-up maker-space that will offer opportunities for all to learn and build using maker tools - from 3D printers to Arduino and everything in between!

During Summer/Fall 2018, LTH worked with Columbus' local Veterans Affairs Ambulatory Care Center to pioneer new programming for military veterans looking to reintegrate into civilian life. Our first workshop series entitled "Improve Our VA" challenged veterans to use 3D printing and the Design Process to identify and solve problems.

During Fall 2017, high school students in Columbus' Franklinton neighborhood learn design and prototyping skills, use 3D printing to solve problems. Plus, local NPR radio station WOSU visited us and put together a great article and radio piece!

LTH Hour Of Code: Maker Edition

For two years running, starting Winter 2017, Members of the East Franklinton community and other surround areas in Columbus explore the world of coding during an all-day event at Idea Foundry! A collaboration between LTH and CoverMyMeds led to this first ever Hour of Code "Maker Edition" event!

LTH Imagine It, Hack It!

During 2017, kids in the Gahanna Parks and Rec summer camp programs were recently challenged to think, design, and solve unique puzzles using emerging technology at the first Local Tech Heroes Summer Program! 100 kids, aged 5-12, were able to learn and utilize the latest in virtual reality, 3d printing, drones, robotics, and coding in order to figure out the challenges presented to them in the Imagine it, Hack it! event. LTH @ Microsoft Store

On Saturdays during Fall 2017, Families interrupted their shopping-mall time to experience cutting-edge 3D scanning and virtual reality sculpting with Local Tech Heroes and Knockout 3D Concpets at the Microsoft Store in Easton Town Center, Columbus.

LTH Summer Camp at Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus
