Hello everyone! My name is Derek Muetzel and I am so excited to be joining Shell Beach Elementary this year. For the past 8 years I have been the assistant principal at Mesa Middle School in Lucia Mar. During that time I have the opportunity to observe so many great teachers. Those observations led to me to realize my passion still remained in the classroom. So, I took the leap and returned to teaching. Before I was an administrator, I taught 5th and 6th grade at Fairgrove Elementary for 6 years. Some of you may already be aware that my wife, Mrs. Muetzel, teaches 6th grade here at Shell Beach. Two of our children will also be attending Shell Beach. We have made it a family affair! I am looking forward to this school year and tackling many of the challenges it will present. I will work to make it the most successful year for all students. I look forward to getting to know both students and families this school year.
