This project was such a blast to participate in! It was very insightful having the opportunity to put myself in the shoes of a facilitator. When answering the driving question, “How do you create and plan a digital art lesson for a target audience of elementary school or middle school students?”
For my vision, I wanted to reference back to my first semester a part of my Digital Media Arts course. There, I learned about key concepts such as colors, fonts, and alignment. Most importantly, I took away the skill of effective communication while forgoing the revisions process. Something I will always remember and be grateful for is the real-world applications Mr.Oliver, my media teacher provided to me and the other students. We collaborated with local businesses to curate promotional materials and refine our skillset.
This lesson I created is aimed to provide a mock community collaborative project for students between 6th - 8th grade to participate in. They will go through the process of collaborating with the managers of “Beans 'n Cream Cafe” as they create promotional posters for the Jazz Night Fundraiser. Along with practicing graphic design by using Google Drawing, students will go through the revisions process by considering how they could improve their color choice, fonts, and alignment.
Overall, this experience taught me key skills within innovation and organization. I truly wanted this to be a lesson teachers can pick up and use at any given moment. I achieved this mission by creating a video, along with a guided slide deck with all the necessary information. Something I am most proud of is the balance I’ve created between informational and interactive. I wanted to make sure that any moments that were more lecture-based had information students could click on and gain a lot from.
I am excited for any students and staff to participate in this lesson! Visit the resources listed understand more about the overall flow and resources.
