Hello! My name is Christina Rice and I teach ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) in Room 17. I pursued obtaining my certification in ESOL because I grew up in a bilingual family and I saw how difficult it was for my cousins to learn English when they arrived to the United States from Italy and I love learning new things. Teaching English Language Learners is a learning experience for me because I get to learn about their customs and cultures first hand.
I attended Temple University and received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and my Master's Degree in Special Education. In 2005 I received my Program Specialist Certificate in ESOL. I have been teaching for 30 years at all levels - Elementary, Middle and High School as well as in Special Education and ESOL. I have taught ESOL for the past 20 years.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband, Dave and I have been married for 25 years and live in Norristown, PA. We have 2 children, a daughter and son. My daughter, Nicole is a 6th Grade Math Teacher and loves it! She enjoys drawing and listening to all types of music. My son, Matthew is 19 and is attending school to obtain his CDL license. He enjoys going to Phillies games, hanging out with his friends and being outdoors! We have 2 cats. Smudge is 9 years old and Cooper is 7 years old. They are very important members of our family. Smudge loves to cuddle up with any of us and Cooper loves to play and reek havoc in the house. My family likes to travel and we do a lot of spur of the moment trips.
My favorite thing to do is read, read, read! I enjoy the summertime the most because I can relax by our pool and read lots of books. I also enjoy bike riding, walking, needlepoint, and cooking. However, my all time favorite thing is going to the Phillies games with my family and friends! I am a huge Phillies fan!
I am looking forward to a very exciting and productive year with your children. I am also looking forward to meeting all of you and working together to help your child succeed. Please contact me at any time with your questions or concerns. I am here for you and your child!
