As a student at LMHS, you have the opportunity to perform in a variety of groups. The band is composed of five main groups - Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Lab, Jazz Ensemble, and Pep Band.
The Wind Ensemble is the top music ensemble in the band program. The music performed by this ensemble is quite advanced. Students in this ensemble are expected to participate in rehearsals outside of school in order to prepare the repertoire at a high level. Auditions for placement in Wind Ensemble will take place in December, after the Winter Concert.
The Symphonic Band is open to students of all ability levels. All Freshmen band members must participate in this ensemble. In this group, students focus on musical development and performing music on a high level. Symphonic Band members are required to attend every pre-concert dress rehearsal.
The Jazz Ensemble is the premier Jazz group in the school. This group focuses on preparing high quality jazz music, as well as developing improvisational skills. The group is nationally recognized for its high quality musical achievement. The Jazz Ensemble performs at numerous venues throughout the region.
The Jazz Lab Band is open to any students in the school. The group focuses on learning how to perform Jazz and other popular music categories. This group rehearses once a week after school. The Jazz Lab performs at all school concerts, as well as Festivals and trips outside of school.
The LMHS Pep Band is comprised of all of the students in the LMHS Band program. This group focuses on playing popular music at a high level and having fun while doing so. The Pep Band performs at all home football games.
