Dear PKMS Families,
Hello, my name is Mrs. HarkerReid and I am the Counselor at Parkway Middle School. Welcome to Parkway Middle School and I want to assure you that I am here to support the academic, social emotional, and wellness needs of your student. Parkway Middle School, and the La Mesa Spring Valley School District, have been developing and preparing instructional rigor, interventions, resources, and creative ways to equitably meet the needs of our students. Our goals are to recover, re-connected and help your student thrive!
This webpage was created as just one way to provide you and your student with additional support, resources, and access to information so that you know what to expect from your School Counselor. I am looking forward to meeting all of our PKMS students and share with you the counseling supports that we can provide. We are here to support your student's academics, wellness, and mental health!
I also want to highlight a website focused on behavior support for LMSVSD families with specific resources and tools for supporting behavior at home. The website is available here:

JOURNAL: You and your student(s) are expericing a historical event. There has not been mandated school closures since the Spanish Influenza in 1918! Journaling is a healthy way your child can express themselves and the changing world around them. Here is a link to a COVID-19 Journal created by a teacher you can use or simply use a journal you already have and create time in the day to write about what your teen and family is experiencing. CREATE a Vision Board: Creating a vision board can be creative, fun, and expressive for your students. A vision board can be for the next week, the month, year 2020, or a life vision board. Click this link to Pinterest resources of ideas and tools. Your board should use images, quotes, phrases, pictures (digital, art, cut out poster) that answer these questions:
What goals are you working toward?
When you imagine reaching your goals what does your life look like?
What images, words, phrases represent you and help you achieve your goal(s)?
How will the process of reaching your goal(s) change you?
