Writing-Please write a conclusion paragraph for your opinion essay. Remember, when you are writing your conclusion paragraph, start with a phrase. Example phrases are listed below:
-To summarize
-In conclusion
-As I stated earlier
-In closing
After you have chosen a starter phrase, continue the sentence with restating your opinion. For example, you may write , "In closing, I believe cats are better than dogs".
Next, you will restate the SAME TWO REASONS you used in your paragraphs.
Finally, you will end with a wrap up sentence to give the reader a feeling the essay is coming to an end.
Once you have written your closing paragraph, you will TYPE ALL 3 PARAGRAPHS AND EMAIL THEM TO ME before Sunday at noon. Do it today if you can so you are finished. I can't wait to read them all!

Writing-First watch the videos. You may watch them as many times as you would like. Remember, you are NOT writing about "more recess" like she talks about in the video. You are writing about cats or dogs. As you watch the videos, start writing down ideas like she does in the video. Video 3 talks about planning. In the planning stage, you start to think more about your reasons. This is also where you do some research which she does not talk about. Writing-You will be writing a persuasive essay over the next week. You will do a little each day.
Today you will watch two videos that will get you started. Watch them as many times as you want.
The writing prompt is : Which is better, cats or dogs? The first thing you will do is pick one; either pick the side that says cats are better or the side that says dogs are better.
Watch these two videos. Persuasive Writing #1 Persuasive Writing #2
Video 2 is about brainstorming a topic. I am showing you this video so you learn how this part of the process works (you will have a teacher one day that tells you to write a persuasive essay but does not give you a topic). I have given you the topic (which is better, cats or dogs).
Reading-packet 2. Our Communities pages 103-104. Complete the questions on page 104.

-We had a lesson last week reviewing topic sentences and supporting details.
- A concluding sentence is at the end of the paragraph, sometimes the last sentence. It gives the reader the feeling the paragraph is coming to an end. We have also called it a "wrap up" sentence.
-Question 4 is asking about pronoun-verb agreement. Look for the pronoun (remember, the pronoun takes the place of a noun) and look for the verb that the pronoun is talking about. For example, in sentence 2 it says,"They are fast moving and hard to keep up with when they start." The pronoun is "they". What is the verb the word "they" is talking about? The answer is "are fast moving." They (pronoun) are fast moving (verb)

Then, illustrate when you are done. Finally, have an adult mark the mistakes so you can edit them.

This is expository text which means it is non-fiction and more difficult. Use you reading comprehension skills. 1) Read the title and ask yourself a question or make a prediction about the text. Do you have any prior knowledge about this topic? 2) Read the headings of each section. Visualize each title. What does it look like in your mind? 3) Look at the vocabulary. Do you know what the words mean? You could work on the vocabulary page 73 as you go. 4) Look at the pictures and read the captions. 5) Start reading the text. Remember to read SLOWLY and watch the movie in your head. If there is no movie there is no comprehension.

Journal-In your journal or composition book (or whatever you are using), please write at least a paragraph, answering this question: Suppose you are given a high-powered telescope and you wanted to look at planet. Pick a planet and write a descriptive paragraph about it. Start with a topic sentence (I would select the planet _________). Use good grammar (capitals, periods, advanced vocabulary). Use information from the reading in your packet and a little research from the internet. Finish by drawing a picture of what you described.
