At Home Learning Resources

The following are free apps and websites that students can use to work on skills at home.

In addition to helping your child with homework and reading with your child every day, here are some websites for you to check out (if you have access to the Internet) and apps to consider downloading (if you have a tablet and/or smartphone). You may also want to look around for math & reading flashcards (they are usually available at dollar stores). Ask your student’s teacher if you need any help locating these resources!

Math

Math Playground - A free ‘action-packed’ math site for grades K-6.
Khan Academy - “Learn almost anything for free.” (Also available as an app.)
Mathigon - Free resources for digital manipulatives, math games and more.
PBS Kids - Free educational games and activities.
MathGames.com - Common core aligned free math games for all grades.

Reading

Starfall - A website to teach children to read using games, songs and stories.
Story Place: The Children’s Digital Library - Free interactive stories in English and Spanish.
San Diego County Library - A free resource to find books, games, homework help, and library events.
ABCya - Free kids educational computer games and activities.
Storyline Online - An online streaming video program featuring actors reading children’s books aloud.
PBS Kids - Free educational games and activities.

Writing

Scholastic Story Starters: A tool focused for K-6 to help students brainstorm ideas for writing a fictional story.
Interactive Alphabet (app) – easy letter and word drawing.
LetterSchool (app) – an intuitive game to learn all about letters and numbers: writing, counting, phonics and more.
Handwriting Without Tears: Wet-Dry-Try (app) – makes handwriting practice fun!
iTrace (app) – handwriting for kids.
