Laptops can be purchased at anytime during the year, however, for Grade 5 parents, we recommend you do not purchase your child's laptop until the dates scheduled for next year's orders.
Secondary School students in all other grades can purchase and place a laptop order at any time.
Apple has several laptop models available. We have reviewed each model for performance and functionality and have determined the best fit models for our students. Below is a brief summary of which laptops we recommend and those we do not recommend.
For most students the 13" (thirteen inch) MacBook Pro or 13" MacBook Air laptop is perfect. The screen and laptop performance will last students three years; the expected life span of a laptop. Middle School students do not need a larger screen. Each laptop has 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB hard drive. Please visit Senco-Masslink's purchasing portal or Apple's website for the most up to date specs. Laptops do not need additional RAM.
This is a good model for students. The screen & CPU performance will meet student's learning needs for the next three years.
It comes with the 3 year extended AppleCare if you purchase it through Senco-Masslink.
The laptop model without Touch-Bar and Touch ID is only slightly heavier than the MacBook Air model.
If you purchase this model laptop you will need to purchase a USB-C to USB adapter. This is included in the laptop bundle.
Additional details and specifications can be seen on the purchasing portal.

The TouchBar and Touch ID model laptop is slightly faster than the MacBook Pro 13 model without Touch-Bar and Touch ID and is only slightly heavier than the MacBook Air model.
The TouchBar is a new feature Apple introduced in 2017. It is a digital screen next to the keyboard that changes its function depending on the program you are using.
If you purchase this model laptop you will need to purchase a USB-C to USB adapter. This is included in the laptop bundle.

This is a good model for students who are in their final year and are interested in media and arts. The extra screen space is useful when working on graphics and media. It comes with the 3 year extended AppleCare if you purchase it through Senco-Masslink.
This model is NOT recommended for Middle School students.
Additional details and specifications can be seen on the purchasing portal.
The MacBook Air 13" laptop is a good laptop. The Air is functional and light but is not as powerful as the MacBook Pro. The MacBook Air is a great laptop however, due the differences in performance (faster CPU & higher resolution) of the MacBook Pro we do recommend the Pro over the Air.
The MacBook laptop is a great entry level laptop for students however, the CPU, 12" screen size and performance specs for the MacBook model are not robust enough to last three years.
A student can use this model at school but anticipate that the laptop will need to be replaced in one year.

First time purchasers:
When purchasing your child's first laptop you will need to create a new user account on the website. Please use your ISF Academy parent email address for your account.
The ISF Academy uses a combination of Google Docs and Microsoft Office. It is important all students have a copy of Microsoft Office on their laptop to ensure they can open documents shared with them.
The ISF Academy has a Microsoft education license which allows students to install Microsoft Office on one of their laptop devices.
You are not required to purchase Microsoft Office for your child though some families do find it useful to do so. Purchasing your own copy of Microsoft Office can allow you to install it on up to 5 separate computers.
Adobe has a rich set of creative software such as Photoshop - for editing photos, Illustrator - for creating graphics, Premier - for editing movies, and more. Not all students will need this software therefore students are encouraged but are NOT required to purchase Adobe's software.
It is important to note that students who have purchased an Apple computer already have Photos (great for editing photos),
iMovie (great for editing videos), and Garageband (great for editing audio).
These programs are great for most people.
Adobe has two packages available for students:
