尋香記──中國芳香文化藝術展

Fragrance is the most ancient of memories; sometimes, it is more vivid than the lights and sounds of time. On September 20th, the temperature in Victoria Harbour was quite high, with low-hanging clouds that enveloped the area like a lingering scent. We visited the Hong Kong Museum of Art to explore the exhibition "Fragrance of time ── In Search of Chinese Art of Scent."

The historical incense tools, such as pottery, bronze, porcelain, and lacquerware, narrate history with poignant depth, while the artistic charm of literati paintings and calligraphy is also on display. The collection features 160 exquisite pieces, spanning from the Neolithic era to the Qing Dynasty, showcasing a magnificent thousand years.

Students studying Chinese classics can now directly experience the verses and cultural heritage they have read about, making the connection between text and reality. The museum emphasizes immersive experiences, with several scent exploration spaces set up, allowing students not only to see but also to smell. This helps them realize that culture is not a relic of the past; it remains vibrant and alive, waiting for meaningful connections with those who resonate with it.

With the support of Shuyuan Chinese Classics program, the South Wind Chinese Literature Society (南風文學社), successfully held its inaugural "South Wind Poetry Competition" (南風詩詞大會) in the C Building Exhibition Foyer from September 24th to 25th. The vibrant event featured two engaging components: "Feihualing" (飛花令), a fast-paced, improvisational word game using lines of classical Chinese poetry, and "Pictionary with Poetry" (你畫我猜), a creative drawing and guessing game based on poetic verses.

The competition attracted five teams comprising nineteen students from Grades 6 to 12. Over the two days, more than one hundred and twenty students and teachers attended, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere. Alongside the poetry competition, members of the Haitang Chinese Culture Society and students involved in the "霽月文華" CAS project offered enriching cultural experiences, such as Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing) displays and Guqin demonstrations, further immersing participants in the richness of Chinese culture.

The two-day event concluded amidst laughter and joy, leaving attendees immersed in the beauty and depth of Chinese poetry. The "South Wind Poetry Competition" not only showcased the students' impressive literary knowledge and innovative spirit but also cultivated a vibrant atmosphere of Chinese culture on campus, contributing to the preservation and celebration of this rich heritage.

Smart cities 2024 nyc trip

For the Smart Cities program, nine students embarked on the annual New York City trip.
