Just Because A Man
“Nothing about us without us” is a slogan for raising awareness for the equal treatment of the people with disabilities as those who do not have them. I drew a pair of eyes in color pencils, and I put 2 bandages one of them to symbolize a person being blind. I wrote a quote next to the drawing of the eyes by Stevie Wonder, who is an amazing artist that happened to be blind. The quote is pretty self-explanatory. It means that a person being blind, or having disabilities in general does not determine their ability to dream, like everyone else.
I think my drawing connects to the quote in the best way, because it shows that being blind does not mean you are not the same as the people who are not. This drawing connects to not only people who are blind, but also to the people with physical and mental disabilities in general. I would probably create a series of this drawing, but with different disabilities than being blind. I hope that by my drawings, people can spread awareness for those with disabilities and their equality as people who don’t have them.
