Message from the Headteacher
It has been an exciting and wonderfully busy start to the term. The children have been an absolute delight, working hard in their classes, and embracing every new challenge with positivity.
Following feedback from our families, we’ve refreshed the style and structure of our newsletter. Our aim is to create something that not only keeps you well informed but also celebrates the fantastic learning and experiences taking place across Lliswerry Primary School. We hope you enjoy reading 'Lliswerry Voice'.
Headgirl & Headboy alongside Deputy Headgirl & Deputy Headboy
Head and Deputy Girls and Boys
Hello, our names are Faith and Caden, and we are the new Head Girl and Head Boy of our school. We are very excited and proud to have been elected, and we want to do our very best this year. Our Deputy Head Boy, Samuel, and Deputy Head Girl, Lucia, are also part of our team.
On Wednesday 27th January, we attended a Holocaust Memorial event at Newport Cathedral. This was our first official trip as school leaders, and it was a very special and meaningful experience. The memorial helped us understand how important it is to remember the millions of Jewish people who were forced to leave their safe places and those who died during the Holocaust. It also reminded us to think about everyone who has suffered in other genocides around the world.
We are grateful we could represent our school at such an important event, and we will carry what we learned with us throughout the year. We look forward to updating you on our duties throughout future newsletters. Thank you for reading.
Please continue to check the Lliswerry Voice for important information and dates for the diary. Please be aware all dates are subject to change.

Hi, I’m Kian in Year 6,
I think Gilwern was the best trip ever! One of my favourite parts was a section in the caves called “The Cheese Press.” It’s a really flat, narrow bit that you have to crawl through, and even though it felt a bit scary at first, it was actually so much fun!
We also did loads of other amazing activities, like rock climbing, mountain walking and gorge walking – you get soaking wet!
Gilwern is a great chance to spend time with your friends, challenge yourself, and laugh A LOT. And of course, there were the famous room inspections every morning… I even got the best score twice!
Overall, Gilwern is an exciting trip that I’ll never forget. It’s fun, adventurous, and a brilliant experience for everyone.
Mrs Isaac
We are delighted to share that Mrs Isaac will be joining the Lliswerry team after February half term as our Interim Deputy Headteacher. We are looking forward to her joining us and are excited for the experience, leadership and energy she will bring to our school community.
Also joining our team is Miss Dwyer who has successfully been appointed as a permanent teacher at Lliswerry. Miss Dwyer will continue to teach in Year 5 for the remainder of this academic year.

Last week playmakers met, and collectively made a presentation to share to the school in assembly. Playmakers are supporting pupils in reception, year 1 and 2 to play respectfully and safe.
This week, our Eco Warriors worked together to discuss simple but powerful ways we can help reduce pollution in our world. The children felt passionate about raising awareness of plastic pollution and its impact on ocean life. Inspired by the image of a turtle, they decided to create a special display to remind everyone why protecting our environment matters.
Two of our Reception classes have recently started their Balanceability Training. They are having so much fun developing their balance and a range of gross motor skills. RBE can't wait for their turn in a few weeks!
The Foodshare and Uniform Shop is available for all families. Please come along and say hello. We are open :
Monday - 8.45am to 9.15am
Wednesday - 3.00pm to 3.30pm
Friday - 8.45am to 9.15am
This term, Year 5 learners have been attending Newport Velodrome for their swimming lessons. These sessions offer children a fantastic opportunity to build water confidence, develop essential life-saving skills, and improve overall fitness. Swimming also supports coordination, strength, and resilience, benefits that extend well beyond the pool. We’re excited to see our learners growing in skill and confidence each week!
A huge well done to 4WA for their fantastic class assembly celebrating World Religion Day. The children spoke with confidence and shared their learning beautifully. We are very proud of them all.
Thank you also to all the parents and families who joined us. Your support means so much to the children, and they loved having you there to share in their hard work and achievements.
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child.
Please see the chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
Our whole school attendance target this academic year is 91.36%. Please work with us to achieve this.
It is important your child is in school on time, doors open at 8:40 and close at 8:50. You must contact the school on the first day of absence.
The School Nursing Service at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board are excited to launch Parent/CarerLine, a new SMS text service for parents and carers of children aged 5 to 16!
Parents and carers can text (SMS) our school nurses on 07507 330206 for expert advice and support with a child's health and wellbeing.
The next Wellbeing & EBSA Parents and Care Givers peer support group meeting will take place on Wednesday the 11th of February from 10am to 12pm at our Newport Mind office.
In the first part of the meeting, we will be welcoming Dr Jen Pearce and Dr Charlotte Cook from CAMHS who will explore what support parents and carers of children who have been involved with mental health services might be interested in, if you know of any families who might like to participate in this discussion, please ask them to join us at 10am.
