Message from the Interim Headteacher
It has been a wonderfully busy Spring half-term, and the children have worked incredibly hard throughout. We are very proud of everything they are achieving and the progress they continue to make each day. The children are just FAN...TASTIC!
Since being inspected by Estyn in June 2025, we have been working hard on the recommendations:
R1: Ensure that leaders identify and prioritise areas for development effectively and secure the necessary improvements
R2. Improve the quality of teaching to ensure that pupils consistently make effective progress across the curriculum
R3. Ensure that pupils make strong progress in mathematics and numeracy with a particular focus on the understanding of key concepts
A full progress update will be shared with you in the next newsletter.
We would like to wish you all a lovely half-term break and we very much look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Monday 23rd February.
As always, thank you for your continued support.

Parents Survey on Provision for Additional Learning Needs
The Local Authority would like to share the short survey below for parents and carers, which aims to gather feedback on the current provision of Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Advocacy.
The feedback collected will be vital in understanding current experiences and informing future improvements to ALN advocacy services.
Our school Eisteddfod will take place on Tuesday 3rd March. Children can wear Welsh clothing or their school PE tops. Children have been working hard on a range of tasks that will enter them into a variety of competitions. It is lovely to hear the sound of Welsh songs and hymns as you walk around the school!
As part of the St David's Day Celebrations, we will be setting a half term competition for our Lliswerry families to take part in. We would love to see your creative and innovative flair to create a piece of art and craft linked with your child's specific year group.
We ask that all entries are brought in by Thursday 26th February. A basket of goodies will be awarded to a winner for each year group. Our members of Criw Cymraeg will have the difficult task of choosing the winners.
This months Language of the Month is Romanian. Some of our children who speak Romanian helped to share the message in assemblies and taught the children a few greetings.
To mark Safer Internet Day, Digital Leaders shared an assembly to raise awareness on appropriate use of AI and also shared some information around it. Did you know the Amazon Alexa and Siri is a form of AI? Classes in school all participated in a live lesson on Tuesday 10th February, with some even using AdobeExpress to raise awareness for safe online behaviour. Please click the link here to view information and guidance from the Welsh Government on various online apps and games that your child may be accessing.
Year 5 had a great visit from Maindee fire station. The firefighters spoke to the children about the dangers of house fires, shared practical advice on how to keep electrical items safe, and explained the important steps to take if a fire does occur. Pupils listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions, and came away with valuable knowledge to help keep themselves and their families safe. We are very grateful to the team for giving their time to support our school community.
Chinese Lunar New Year, also known as Lunar New Year begins on Tuesday, Feb. 17 and marks the start of the Year of the Fire Horse. In Nursery, children celebrated this by cooking Chinese food together, exploring new smells, tastes, and ingredients, and talking about how food is shared during celebrations. The children also took part in a Chinese New Year party, with music, decorations, and lots of excitement.
A huge well done to Class LC for their fantastic class assembly. Thank you to all the parents and families who joined us. Your support means so much to the children, and they loved having you there to share in their hard work and achievements.
Parent and Children Together - PACT
Thank you so much for taking the time to attend our recent maths PACT sessions. It was great to see so many of you there and engaging so positively with the sessions. We hope the workshops helped you gain a clearer understanding of how maths is taught in school, and that you picked up a few new ideas and strategies that you can try at home too.
Thank you again for your support — it really makes a difference to your child’s learning.
