Tryouts Start November 10, 2025.
Monday (11/10):
Groups 1 (JV1 and JV2 Candidates) East Gym Tryouts 3:25-5:25:
Group 2 (Varsity Candidates) Study Hall 3:25-4-15; West Gym Tryouts 4:20-6:45:

Players may be moved up or down levels throughout the week to get players at the level where they can be competitive.

FINAL TEAMS will be posted on "2025-2026 Final Rosters" by 8:00 pm.
Thursday-Friday (11/13-14):
After tryouts, practices will be held every day from 3:25 to 5:30. On some days, the varsity team will practice until 6:00.
During Advent and Lent, coaches should be finished by 5:30 so players can get home to go to church with their families.
If practices are cancelled, coaches will communicate that to the players.
Saturday (11/15):
JV1 and Varsity will have a scrimmage at Fort Atkinson High School on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

How long will tryouts be? (3 days: November 10-12)

What will the time commitment in season look like?
Practice is every day from 3:25 to 5:25 (varsity maybe longer…5:45) on days that we have school, unless the administration says it is safe for practice on cancellation days
There will be special practices over vacations and weekends. There is a varsity and JV1 tournament over the Christmas vacation.

What should I wear/bring to tryouts?
Shorts

Importance of basketball shoes. What color?
Shoes should be LAKESIDE SCHOOL COLORS or part of the school's adopted color scheme, or all white or all Navy blue, all Columbia blue, all Carolina blue, or all black.
Are we a team or a collection of individuals? TEAM FIRST!
How many players usually make up each team?
10-15 players per team.
Ultimately, it depends on several components, including skill level, chemistry, attendance, attitude, and ability.
What is the attendance policy?
It is expected that you will be at all practices and games.
Playing time is determined by practice participation.
If you miss a practice before a game, you may play, but you may not start, and playing time will be subject to the coach's discretion.
What is the conditioning and weight training expectation? In practice? Outside of?
All girls will do strength training during the season will be lifting during the school day.
Time will be provided during practice for JV1 and Varsity.
Those not lifting will be required to lift during the morning on Tuesday and Thursday at 7 am.
What are the rules regarding jewelry in practice?
No Earrings.
No Necklaces.
No Bracelets.
No other pericings
Q: What skills should I be focusing on before tryouts?
A: We want to play pressure defense. We want to press and fastbreak at all times when the opportunity exists, and we have the players to commit to that system. Our teams will adapt based on personnel and skill level.
Ball Handling:
Control with both hands (stationary + on the move)
Dribbling under pressure, crossover, hesitation, retreat dribble
Passing accuracy (chest, bounce, outlet, and on the move)
Shooting:
Proper form and balance
Consistency from short/mid range
Finishing at the rim (both hands, layups under pressure)
Free throws
Footwork:
Jump stop, pivoting, triple threat position
Balance on drives, cuts, and defensive slides
Defense
On-ball defense: stance, quick feet, ability to stay in front
Help defense and rotations: understanding of team concepts
Rebounding: boxing out, timing, physicality
Communication: talking through switches and help
Basketball IQ
Decision-making under pressure
Understanding spacing, timing, and movement off the ball
