Las Lomitas Family Book Club
Las Lomitas Family Book Club
This summer we are hosting our first ever Family Book Club, a school-wide reading initiative for all grade levels.
We will read one of my favorite books, Ways to Make Sunshine, by Renee Watson. We'll come together for one fun and engaging meeting to discuss the book and share our love of reading. It's a fun way to connect as a family and with our school community.
How it works
Reading: The idea is that you will read the book together as a family. Depending on the age of your child, you can read it to them, you can take turns reading, or your child can read to you. It can also be a combination of the three.
Getting the Book: We have a limited number of books that can be checked out from the library. You can also access the book in various way:
the public library
purchase a copy from Amazon or a local bookstore like Kepler's or Linden Tree Books
download a digital ebook version
download and listen to an audiobook version
Meeting: We will meet on July 29 at 11:00 am in the Las Lomitas Library. If you plan on joining please fill out this Google Form, so that I can plan for the appropriate number of people.
This is a family event. A grown up needs to attend with the child. Children should not just be dropped off.
By Renee Watson
Ryan Hart can be and do anything. Her name means "king", that she is a leader, and she is determined to keep growing into the name her parents gave her. She is all about trying to see the best in people, to be a good daughter, sister, and friend. But Ryan has a lot on her mind. For instance: Dad finally has a new job, but money is still tight. That means some changes, like moving into a new (old) house, and Dad working the night shift. And with the fourth-grade talent show coming up, Ryan wonders what talent she can perform on stage in front of everyone without freezing. As even more changes and challenges come her way, Ryan always finds a way forward and shows she is a girl who knows how to glow.
