The following lessons are designed to lay the foundation of the three goals of the SNC 1W course. Students will be introduced to both indigenous and western science perspectives, develop their scientific literacy skills, explore scientific and engineering processes, and formulate testable questions. These lessons should form a natural path to introducing the science fair project and artificial intelligence activity if you choose. Although these lessons cover many important introductory elements of the Grade 9 Science course, additional lessons on lab and classroom safety procedures, use of equipment, or units of measurement should be added where appropriate. Furthermore, you may want to check out the resources page of this website for some great lesson starters created by the HPE District School Board; their 'first 10-day' activities focus on building positive classroom culture, introducing the inquiry-based approach, and unpacking SEL (social and emotional learning).
