Is your school interested in being a part of Skills Ontario 2026? Here are the steps schools need to follow if you are interested in being part of this year's Skills Ontario Competition:
Teachers speak to their Admin for approval to request seats.
Important Considerations for administrators and supporting teachers:
Central funding will cover the cost of Registration Fees for competing at the provincial Skills Ontario Competition on May 5, 2026, as well as the cost of one supply per school for May 5th release.
Release: Four (4) release spots have been secured centrally for the May 5 Skills Ontario Competition in Toronto.
Schools will be responsible for remaining expenses including travel and accommodation costs associated with the event.
Schools may have to host school-based qualifier competitions if the number of students/schools interested in being a part of a Skills Ontario competition exceeds the number of seats the LKDSB receives for that competition.
School based qualifiers will be organized by schools, similar to athletics tournaments and will take place outside school hours.
Supporting teachers will be responsible for helping to plan, organize, and supervise school based qualifying competitions.
With Admin approval, please click: Expression of Interest and submit by Nov 14
Seat requests are compiled centrally and submitted to Skills Ontario.
LKDSB receives confirmation of the number of seats we've been allocated by mid-December.
LKDSB Students will compete in qualifying events between February and April. (School organized competitions, St. Clair College Skills Competition, Fanshawe College Regional Skills Ontario Qualifier)
Determining who Competes at Provincials:
If the total number of students interested in a particular Skills Ontario Competition (i.e. welding) is greater than the total number of seats the LKDSB has been allocated for that competition, and where the St Clair College Skills Competition cannot provide the space, supporting teachers will collaborate and determine a fair qualifying process to determine which students will attend the Provincial Skills Ontario Competition in Toronto on May 5, 2026. This may require a school agreeing to host a competition with supporting teachers helping to plan, organize and supervising the qualifier event.
Note: It is strongly recommended that students compete in a qualifying event to help prepare them for the competitive environment they will experience when they go to Skills Ontario event in Toronto.
St Clair College, Windsor will host a Regional Competition on Sat Mar 7th
*More details will be shared as they become available regarding the skills competitions they are hosting and the number of seats that will be available to LKDSB students.
